Trough Mixer

 

The Trough Mixer is a horizontal mixing machine mainly used for blending powders, granules and paste-like materials. I usually recommend this type of trough mixer when the material needs stronger mechanical mixing rather than simple free-fall blending.

The machine has a horizontal trough and an S-shaped stirring paddle. During operation, the paddle turns the material back and forth inside the tank, helping different components mix evenly.

For pharmaceutical, chemical and food production, it is a fairly practical horizontal powder mixer with a simple working structure and easy operation.

 

 

The working principle of this trough mixing machine is quite straightforward.

After the materials are loaded into the mixing trough, the motor drives the stirring shaft through the reducer. The S-shaped paddle continuously turns and folds the materials inside the trough, allowing the main material and smaller additives to gradually distribute throughout the batch.

When the mixing time is reached, the machine stops. The trough can then be tilted for discharge.

For some powder and wet-material processes, I find this mixing method more suitable than a simple tumbling mixer because the paddle gives the material more active movement.

 

 

The horizontal trough mixer mainly consists of a mixing trough, stirring shaft, S-shaped paddle, reducer, motor, discharge mechanism and electrical control system.

The material-contact parts can be manufactured from SS304 or SS316L stainless steel according to the application. For pharmaceutical production, 316L is often a better choice when corrosion resistance and cleaning requirements are higher.

The inside of the trough can also be polished according to the customer's cleaning requirements.

 

 

Simple Mixing Structure

The trough powder mixer uses a horizontal shaft and mechanical paddle mixing system. There are no complicated internal transmission components, which makes daily operation and maintenance relatively straightforward.

Easy Material Discharge

The mixing trough can be tilted after mixing. This helps reduce the amount of material left inside the tank and makes batch changeover easier.

Suitable for Powder and Paste

The Trough Mixer can handle many powdery, granular and light paste materials. Typical applications include pharmaceutical powders, chemical materials, food ingredients and other similar products.

Stainless Steel Construction

For pharmaceutical and food applications, the material-contact surfaces can be made from SS304 or SS316L. This also makes the pharmaceutical trough mixer easier to clean after production.

For pharmaceutical projects, I normally ask customers about the material, bulk density, batch size and moisture content first. These details are more useful for selecting a pharmaceutical trough mixer than simply choosing a model by volume.
