What a V Type Blender Does, and What It Does Not Do
A v type blender is a tumble mixer. It has no internal paddle, no ribbon, no rotating shaft inside the product zone. The V-shaped vessel turns on a horizontal axis, and the powder inside splits into two cylinders, cascades back to the junction, and recombines on every rotation. This is enough to blend free-flowing powders and granules to a uniform distribution. It is not enough to break a sticky agglomerate or force a cohesive powder apart. The Split-and-Recombine Geometry
The two cylinders of the vessel are not identical in length. As the shell rotates, the asymmetry creates a slight potential-energy difference between the two legs. Material moves not only vertically with gravity but also laterally between the cylinders through the junction. One rotation does not complete the job; the vessel keeps turning, and the powder keeps dividing and recombining. The result is a v type blender for shear-sensitive granules where no mechanical element touches the particles beyond the smooth inner wall. Friction heat is negligible. Crystal shape is retained.
What the Parameters Actually Control

Fill level matters as much as speed: 40%–70% of total volume is the practical range for proper cascading. Mixing time typically falls between 5 and 15 minutes. Vessel, Contact Parts, and Options

The discharge uses a butterfly valve sized to the outlet, sealed to keep dust inside the system during unloading. For powders that tend to form soft lumps, an v type blender with intensifier bar can be specified: a separately driven high-speed shaft runs through the vessel axis and breaks down agglomerates without subjecting the whole batch to shear. A liquid addition port through the intensifier bar is also available for small-volume spray-in applications.

Pharmaceutical blending is the most common placement: low-dose actives, excipients, granule pre-blends, and dry syrup mixes where content uniformity needs to be demonstrated. Food and nutraceutical production uses the same gentle logic for flavor blends, vitamin premixes, and fragile ingredient particles. Fine chemical and specialty material batches use it when cross-contamination risk must be minimized and the vessel can be cleaned as a smooth cavity.
